Recruitment Policy

Recruitment & Placement Policy for STAR SEA MANAGEMENT PVT LTD (RPSL-MUM-330)

At STAR SEA MANAGEMENT PVT LTD, we are committed to providing fair, safe, transparent, and professional recruitment and placement services to all seafarers. Our recruitment practices are designed to ensure compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006) and applicable Indian maritime regulations.


1. Age Restrictions and Safety

Minimum Age:

No seafarer under the age of 18 years shall be employed or engaged to work onboard a vessel.


2. Zero-Fee and Anti-Fraud Policy

Free Recruitment and Placement:

We strictly follow a Zero-Fee Policy. No fees, commissions, or other charges for recruitment or placement shall be collected from seafarers, either directly or indirectly.

Shipowner's Expenses:

The full cost of visas required for employment shall be borne by the shipowner and shall not be charged to the seafarer.


3. Data Privacy and Confidentiality

Right to Privacy:

We respect the privacy of all seafarers. Personal information is collected, stored, processed, and shared with authorized third parties in a secure, responsible, and confidential manner.

Protected Data:

This protection applies to personal records, including qualifications, employment history, medical information, employment contracts, and other relevant documentation.

Trained Staff:

Personal data is handled and supervised by trained shore-based staff who understand the requirements of the maritime industry and the importance of maintaining confidentiality.


4. Fair Recruitment and Non-Discrimination

No Blacklisting:

We do not maintain or use any hidden lists, mechanisms, or practices intended to prevent or discourage seafarers from obtaining employment.

Equal Opportunity:

Recruitment and placement are carried out without discrimination based on race, colour, gender, religion, political opinion, nationality, or social background.

Job Requirements:

Selection or preference based solely on legitimate professional, technical, qualification, certification, experience, or other requirements of a specific position shall not be considered discriminatory.


5. Clear Rights, Responsibilities, and Briefing

Pre-Placement Briefing:

Before joining a vessel, every seafarer shall be clearly informed of their rights, duties, and responsibilities as set out in their employment contract or agreement.

Qualified and Medically Fit Crew:

We ensure that every recruited seafarer is appropriately trained and qualified, holds valid certificates and documents, and is medically fit for sea service.


6. Protection, Insurance, and Repatriation

Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Insurance:

We ensure that vessels on which our crew members are placed are covered by appropriate Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Insurance.

Safe Repatriation:

If a seafarer becomes stranded or requires repatriation, we take the necessary responsibility and appropriate steps to facilitate their safe return to their home country in accordance with applicable requirements.

Deceased Seafarers:

In the unfortunate event of a seafarer's death, we will arrange and bear the applicable costs for the transportation and necessary care of the deceased seafarer's remains to their next of kin, subject to applicable local laws and regulations.


7. Grievance Redressal Mechanism

Right to Complain:

Every seafarer has the right to submit a complaint regarding our recruitment and placement services or, where applicable, matters concerning the shipowner.

Mandatory Action:

We are committed to properly investigating, reviewing, and responding to every complaint received concerning our recruitment and placement activities.

Unresolved Issues:

Where a complaint cannot be resolved through our internal grievance mechanism, the matter may be referred to the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India) or the relevant Flag Administration or competent authority, as applicable, for further consideration and resolution.
