Grievance Redressal & Anti-Exploitation Policy
Grievance Redressal & Anti-Exploitation Policy for STAR SEA MANAGEMENT PVT LTD (SSMPL)
STAR SEA MANAGEMENT PVT LTD (SSMPL) maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward seafarer exploitation and implements a structured maritime grievance mechanism to ensure fair treatment, contract integrity, and operational safety onboard all managed vessels.
I. Onboard Grievance Resolution & Escalation Matrix
In accordance with MLC 2006, Standard A5.1.5, seafarers have the right to seek redress for contractual, operational, welfare, or other employment-related disputes through a defined escalation pathway.
Tier 1: Shipboard Command — Master of the Vessel
Grievances should initially be raised with the Master of the Vessel, who is responsible for attempting to resolve the matter at the shipboard level and formally notifying the Shipowner, Manager, and SSMPL shore management, where applicable.
Tier 2: Executive Management Intervention
If a dispute remains unresolved at the shipboard level, it will be escalated to the Shipowner/Principal Client and the Managing Director of SSMPL for appropriate administrative and legal review and resolution.
Tier 3: Statutory Authority — Direct Recourse
Seafarers retain the right to bypass internal procedures and refer unresolved complaints, or complaints directly concerning the Company or Shipowner, to the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India), the Seamen's Employment Office, or the relevant Flag State Administration, as applicable.
SSMPL will provide full cooperation to the competent maritime authorities during formal investigations.
II. Statutory Anti-Exploitation & Financial Integrity Measures
Protection from Professional Exploitation
SSMPL strictly prohibits any form of bribery, coercion, harassment, or discriminatory exploitation of seafarers by shore-based personnel in connection with vessel assignments, employment opportunities, or placement offers.
Financial Transparency
To minimize the risk of financial exploitation, SSMPL maintains appropriate records and transparency regarding crew-related financial transactions, including allotments, joining advances, and monetary transfers between the Shipowner and the seafarer.
Regulatory Record Retention
Comprehensive physical and digital records of grievances received, investigation findings, supporting documentation, and corrective actions are maintained by SSMPL in accordance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements and may be made available for regulatory audits when required.
